Mary Rockwood Lane, PhD, completed her nursing education at University of Florida, her MSN training at the Boston College and her PhD in Nursing at University of Florida, in Arts in Medicine. She is now on the faculty at College of Nursing, University of Florida as Assistant Professor of Nursing where she teaches Creativity and Spirituality in Healthcare on the undergraduate and graduate level and mentors graduate students. Dr. Lane is director emeritus and co-founder of Shands Arts In Medicine, founder of their artist in residence program, and is on the faculty of Spirituality and Healthcare Group at University of Florida for the Study of Religion/Spirituality and Health at that institution. She has published extensively in the fields of Creativity, Spirituality and Healthcare with many peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and 6 books in print or in preparation. Her research on Creativity, Spirituality and Healthcare has been featured on close to 100 national and international TV news programs (including all major US news networks), over 100 national or international radio programs (including multiple NPR, BBC, and CBC interviews), and nearly 200 national or international newspapers or magazines Dr. Lane has presented to the Florida State Government concerning the benefits of Arts In Medicine on health and her program Shands Arts In Medicine has been a model for the State of Florida arts initiative and for programs around the world. Her latest books include Spirit Body Healing (Wiley, 1998), Shaman Wisdom, Shaman Medicine (Wiley, 2000 and Creativity and Healing (Harper San Francisco, 1998).
